About this experience
The Neolithic sites of west Mainland Orkney are among the best preserved in Europe: the stone village of Skara Brae with its dressers and beds; the stone circles of Brodgar and Stenness; the great tomb of Maeshowe.
Between them is the Ness of Brodgar, a vast complex of Neolithic buildings found in 2003. The excavation ended in 2024 and the site was backfilledverify, so it can no longer be seen, but it changed the story of everything around it.
An archaeologist spends a day or two with you: Skara Brae early before the coaches, the circles, a booked tour of Maeshoweverify, and the less visited tombs on Rousay if there is time.
It is the difference between looking at stones and understanding them.
